Project Manager
As Project Manager, Matthew Jelen manages the workflow of The Center’s main research initiative (Pebble Project) and other educational programs. He is responsible for overseeing The Center’s Award Programs and assists in the development and maintenance of the educational curriculum of the HEALTHCARE DESIGN, Environments for Aging, and X3 conferences.
Mr. Jelen has an M.A. in both Practicing and Teaching Sociology, from Humboldt State University. His Master’s thesis titled “Evaluating the Viability of Community Currency as a Tool for Sustainable Development: A Case Study of the Humboldt Exchange Community Currency Project” examined the relationship between alternative exchange systems, environmental sustainability and community development.
While at Humboldt State, he worked with various research organizations, including the Altruistic Personality and Pro-Social Behavior Institute, where he co-authored a study on resistance to genocide. He also worked closely with the Center for Applied Analysis and Education, teaching and participating in a wide range of community sponsored research projects.
Additionally, Mr. Jelen holds a B.A. in Sociology from Humboldt State University. While working on his B.A. he both authored original research and worked extensively with profoundly disabled children.
