Established in 1972, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), based in Princeton, N.J. is the largest philanthropy devoted exclusively to health and health care in the United States. Grantmaking in concentrated in the areas of 1) access to quality healthcare at reasonable cost, 2) improving the quality of care and support for people with chronic health conditions, 3) promoting healthy communities and lifestyles, and 4) reducing the personal, social, and economic harm caused by substance abuse. RWJF funded The Center's most recent research summary of evidence-based design studies, as well as an invitation-only meeting of healthcare leaders and a press briefing in June 2004.
