This year's competition was judged during Healthcare Design.09 by an esteemed jury of interior designers and architects:

G. Yim Lim, AIA, NOMA

Jean Young, Young + Company

Renee Zepeda, Fletcher Thompson

Ed Bottomley, CAMA Inc.

Five Nightingale awards were distributed to the following manufacturers:

Peter Pepper Products
HealthFIRST Infection Control Center

HealthFIRST Infection Control Centers reduce the risk of cross contamination by providing single dispensers for combinations of sanitizer, gloves, masks, gowns, and tissues, in wall mounted, freestanding, or mobile cart models. This reduces clutter within a space and neatly organizes the products in one area. The centers are manufactured in stainless steel or steel painted in Polane polyurethane paint—acceptable for disinfectant cleaning and making the product 100 percent recyclable. They come available with or without wood trim, and with magazine/literature or chart storage. Finishes include wood stains and colors.

IoA Healthcare Furniture
JJ Pediatric Chair

The JJ is small in scale, bringing comfort to the pediatric patient and ease of accessibility to the caregiver through a hydraulic height-adjustment feature. Seat height is 15 in. and reclines effortlessly. The “game pole” is an articulating arm that supports a TV and game console. All parts are made to last: mechanical components consist of ½-in. and ¼-in. (fraction about should be same size as these) thick steel; cushions are made from closed cell polyurethane foam; and the connecting frame is made of heavy-gauge carbon steel.

Hill-Rom
Art-of-Care Over Bed Tables

Art-of-Care Over Bed Tables function with the bed through sweeping curves from the base of the table to the top surface. As the second most-used piece of equipment in the patient room, the tables need to be intuitive and easy to operate. The Art-of-Care tables were rigorously tested to ensure that they meet these demands.

Brandrud
Florabella

The Florabella lounge collection combines superior comfort with ease of cleaning thanks to a continuous “clean-out gap” around the seat, eliminating a possible source of hospital-acquired infection. The framing technology and floating seat cushion provide pass-through gaps, allowing material to fall to the floor where it can most easily be cleaned. The basic aesthetic of the furniture is derived from the classic barrel-back archetype. Florabella contains zero PVCs and uses a soy-based foam. It was designed according to Herman Miller’s Design for Environment guidelines.

Quick Drain USA

Quick Drain (BEST OF SHOW WINNER)

The Quick Drain linear drain system can cut approximately 85 percent of labor costs and 200 lbs. of concrete in a shower installation. The slim shape allows architects and designers to use any type and size of flooring due to the product’s one-way slope in the trough. Quick Drain is made from stainless steel, 18 Gauge 316L, can be treated with antimicrobial coatings, and adjusted for a variety of flooring materials, from vinyl and epoxy, to tile and concrete.

In addition to being recognized during Healthcare Design.09, winners also receive coverage in Contract magazine and a personalized glass award.
