Presents Research in Practice: Emergency Department Strategic Design Considerations on September 13-14 in Lexington, Kentucky
About this Research-in-Practice Workshop:
ED Directors are balancing a range of competing priorities on a daily basis including increased patient acuity, staffing shortages, delayed throughput, system bottle-necks, advances in technology and data management systems, emergency preparedness and facility maintenance.
Designing a new emergency department or to renovating an existing department presents an opportunity to leverage design strategies in support of your desired outcomes. The need to forecast and incorporate the latest research informed practices and guidelines into new and existing facilities can determine success or failure of a new ED.
The Center for Health Design's Pebble Project, in conjunction with MedStar Health’s Institute for Innovation (MI2) and its Pebble Project, ER One, has designed a one and a half day experience to provide you with the latest design research, applications, tools and processes for designing an effective, efficient, and safe new Emergency Department.
What to Expect:
The workshop is an opportunity to engage with experts in the field. As a participant, you will attend interactive learning sessions, facility tours of a brand new benchmark ED facility and hospital, and networking opportunities. Leading health systems and proven faculty authorities will offer up their "lessons learned" so you can understand and how and why various design concepts can improve outcomes and patient flow. Experts will also be available to interact with you, personally, during our scheduled “Knowledge Bars”. Be prepared to address key challenges that your department is facing, and expect to receive feedback and design recommendations to consider.
The program includes an advanced, intensive curriculum that provides participants with proven strategies to address the multiple challenges that must be overcome to design a today’s Emergency Departments. Upon completion of this workshop, you will be able to:
Identify opportunities to use design strategies to improve ED operations. Implement solutions for a broad spectrum of ED operational issues. Incorporate essential elements and strategies for developing a successful ED redesign project
