Additional details:
The new Prentice Women's Hospital is located on a premier site near downtown Chicago with sweeping views of Lake Michigan and convenient access to nearby parks and transportation. The design of the new replacement hospital was viewed by Northwestern Memorial Hospital as an opportunity to respond to the expressed needs and preferences of women, both for themselves and their family members. Scheduled to open in October 2007, the new hospital will support patients and caregivers alike, enabling a unified and comprehensive approach to healthcare for women through all stages of their lives.
The facility will include a total of 328 licensed beds, of which 242 are in private patient rooms with visitor-friendly features such as Internet access, daybeds for visitors, and comfortable family-focused waiting areas. The hospital will be home to one of the largest comprehensive breast centers in the Midwest. Women will have convenient access to both inpatient and outpatient diagnostic services. The new hospital will also have the capacity to handle up to 13,600 births per year and will offer an 86-bassinet neonatal intensive care unit, one of the largest in the country. State-of-the-art technology with an integrated medical record system will also be implemented in the new facility. Amenitites will include a dedicated women's health center, an education and conference center, and a full-service retail center.
