DAS worked with the NGHS Art Committee to create a visual journey though the North Patient Tower of the unique aspects of life in and around Gainesville, GA. Focal pieces included glimpses of seasonal beauty found at nearby Lake Lanier, the Smokey Mountains, local wildflowers, fruit orchards and the nearby rowing venue.
The Elevator Lobby Donor Art Gallery on floors 1 - 6 treats viewers to a wide array of original artwork by local artists as they travel between floors. Visitors begin their journey amidst metal sculpted Georgia songbirds on the first floor and continue to travel through original photography and commissioned works on canvas featuring Smokey Mountain streams, Dogwoods, Camellias, Wildflowers and Lake Lanier.
Through the selection of decidedly different media and subject matter, artwork in each elevator lobby helps to give identity to the floor while serving as a natural way finding element. Each subject continues to be illustrated in a variety of ways throughout the public corridors on each floor.
Diligent donor involvement helped modify commissioned original artwork to include favorite Georgia wildflowers, as well a particular camellia whose class and phylum were named after a beloved donor family member. Donors were immensely pleased that their final gift reflected both a personal touch as well as their family legacy. The art program features 38 pieces of commissioned original work, 265 pieces of published art, a historical photo wall, donor gifts and donor recognition.
