As part of an ongoing partnership with the Mercy Medical Center (MMC) system in Des Moines, Iowa, Hammes Company created a multi-campus Master Facility Plan. One result of this planning effort was the recognized need to replace the existing Mercy Capitol Hospital. MMC leaders moved forward with a replacement facility in the growing West Lakes area of West Des Moines. Hammes Company validated this decision and assisted with service line planning, CON and municipal approvals as well as construction manager and general contractor selection.
The new facility is designed to receive LEED Certification, with a focus on energy efficiency. Hammes Company helped to reduce project costs by more than $2M through aggressive value engineering, including the elimination of some design elements that did not address the hospital's mission and creative solutions for noise-dampening technologies.
