St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Patient Room

Your firm's role on the project:  Soundtech Inc. provided the SoundCoustic Wall System (TM), technical advice and supported acoustical testing by independent testing firm, Arrow Audio.

Type of facility:  Full Service Hospital

Number of beds:  120

Specialty services:  Acute Care

Project vision/goals:  When considering the new FGI Guidelines for acoustics in healthcare, Affinity Health Systems realized that in order to meet the decibel level criteria, the walls of the patient room must now enter into the equation - treating only the ceilings are no longer enough.  SoundCoustic Acoustical Wall System offered Affinity Health a unique, affordable option that is decorative, cleanable, and impact resistant.

Lessons learned:

  • SoundCoustic was installed in a patient room on an active patient room floor.  No sanding is required, so there was no dust or excessive noise during installation.
  • By treating only two walls of a patient room, SoundCoustic provided a significant reduction in the reflection and transmission of speech band frequencies.
