Video Shooting Tips

Keep the light source behind the camera... and pointed towards the subject. Natural light facing the subject is best as it will ensure the the camera can clearly see the person being filmed.

Be aware of your background. Take a look at the background and be aware of any items that may look awkward in the video. Does a plant look like it is spouting out of the subject’s head? Just move the subject or the plant a few inches to the side to improve the framing.

Keep your camera stationary. Handheld video can be fun, but it can also be difficult to hold steady. If you’re using a video camera or cameraphone, set it up on a tripod or any other steady surface to improve the look of your video.

Frame the shot. The best angle for shooting videos is to include in the frame, the subject’s face to just below the shoulders, keeping the camera at eye level.

Be aware of background noise. Pick a quiet location to shoot your video: a small room with the door closed, a corner of the office, anywhere where loud noises will not interrupt what is being said.

Say your name aloud to the camera and spell it. Be kind to your editors and help them with spelling your name and identifying who is speaking. They will definitely appreciate it!
