EDAC

Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification

EDAC Examination

The first phase of the EDAC program is the launch of a rigorous examination to measure Evidence-Based Design knowledge.

Content

Throughout the development of EDAC, volunteers have kept true to CHD's core principals: research, education and advocacy. Years of research have been applied to developing the base knowledge for the program, which focuses on the following content domains:

  • Evidence-Based Design for Healthcare
  • Research
  • Pre-Design
  • Design
  • Construction and Occupancy

Led by a professional pscyhometrician with Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP), a core group of EDAC volunteers have created a detailed content outline (DCO), which lists test categories within the five domains.

The exam consists of 100 items that fall within these five domains. Individuals will be expected to recall, analyze and apply knowledge.

Registration

Through AMP's website, candidates will be able to register for the exam, download the candidate handbook and locate testing facilities. All exams will be taken on a a computer that is monitored by personnel at the testing facilities. The EDAC examination will launch in 2008.

Educational Support

The Center for Health Design recognizes the considerable value of educational support. As a result, we are developing a set of educational resources to prepare candidates for the examination. Not only will these tools be useful for exam preparation, but they will also be invaluable evidence-based design references.

The educational resources will teach the concepts and processes covered by the EDAC program for candidates who need to increase their knowledge in one of more of the five content domains. The resources, which will contain all the background knowledge emphasized in the DCO, will be launched three months prior to the exam. Volunteers are currently developing this material in conjunction with Embanet, a course development company.
