Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center

Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center is constructing a eight-story tower with a basement to accommodate 199 new patient rooms on the west side of its existing Medical Center.  Expected completion is 2008. The patient rooms will house medical/surgical, pediatric, and ICU beds.  The additional rooms will allow the Medical Center to accommodate its existing inventoried capacity with 100 percent medical surgical private rooms. 

The hospital is committed to improving patient satisfaction in every department.  This commitment includes the upgrading of the physical setting as it effects both the staff work areas, patient care spaces, and visitor areas.  The design components to be included into the addition and the remodeling include all private patient rooms with enough room allocated for the family within each patient room. 

In addition, the design includes decentralized nurses stations and nursing support functions, including hand washing at strategic locations in the work path.  Other considerations include access to natural light, improved acoustics, a resource library for patients and family, consolidation of key departments, and an enhanced wayfinding system.  The design firm is PFB Architects LLC and the associate architect is HDR Inc.
