Spectrum Health
Grand Rapids, MI

Spectrum Health opened its Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion at the Butterworth Hospital in June 2008. The six story, 284,000-square-foot facility with a projected cost of $92 million, consolidates Spectrum Health's cancer services and staff to form a center of excellence.  The goal was to provide an aesthetically pleasing, emotionally comforting, single, centrally located cancer facility.

The Pavilion enables Spectrum Health to bring together the majority of its Grand Rapids cancer services. Radiation treatment, medical oncology, chemotherapy, research, cancer multispecialty clinics, a genetic evaluation clinic, research labs, physician offices, a consumer library and administrative offices are among the services located there. The building also houses a multi-floor life healing garden.

This increased access to healthcare providers and services is expected to reduce patient frustrations and provide more effective, efficient, and coordinated outcomes for patients. This theory will be tested as part of Spectrum's Pebble Project research. The design firm for the project is URS Corporation.
