In July 2005 Spectrum Health began construction of the Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion at the Butterworth Hospital. The six story, 200,000-square-foot facility with a projected cost of $78 million, is scheduled to open in Fall 2008 and will consolidate Spectrum Health's cancer services and staff as to form a center of excellence.
The Lemmon-Holten Cancer Pavilion will be a freestanding building on a parking structure and connected to Spectrum Health's Butterworth campus by a pedestrian bridge and a service/pedestrian tunnel. The goal is to provide an aesthetically pleasing, emotionally comforting, single, centrally located cancer facility.
This increased access to healthcare providers and services is expected to reduce patient frustrations and provide more effective, efficient, and coordinated outcomes for patients. This theory will be tested as part of Spectrum's Pebble Project research. The design firm for the project is URS Corporation.
