St. Elizabeth' Hospital has undertaken implementation of a multi-phase master plan for its Pebble Project. This expansion and renovation will add significant capacity for services and will satisfy changing market and demographic demands as well as the need for updating and responding to current technologies and services.
Phase I of the project is designed to improve patient access and wayfinding. The project consists of a 438 stall parking structure, a 50,000 square foot addition that will provide Patient Registration, Outpatient Test Center, Nuclear Diagnostics, Cardiopulmonary Department, Laboratory, Rehabilitation Gym, Internet Café, Resource Center, Gift Shop, and a beautiful two and one-half story atrium serving as the primary entrance.
This design will coherently unify the campus in a manner that gives the user an experience that is clear and understandable, pleasant and relaxing. The experience of the hospital will also connect the user, both consciously and sub-consciously, to the qualities and attributes that are valued and familiar to the community.
Emphasis on sustainability will be an integral part of all components of the design. The project will implement holistic, sustainable ideas that deal with storm water management, cool day lighting, recycled materials, energy efficient building skins, smart building systems that manage electrical and mechanical use, as well as other ideas. St. Elizabeth is pursuing LEED Certification on this project. Measurements may include impact of LEED design, staff productivity and work process, staff satisfaction, safety, reduction of noise levels, sleep quality, and staff fatigue. Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, Inc. is the design firm.
