ORDER YOUR COPY OF A VISUAL REFERENCE FOR EVIDENCE-BASED DESIGN

Jain Malkin, noted leader in research-based design, shares compelling knowledge and stunning visuals in her latest book, A Visual Reference for Evidence-based Design. With a zeal for fact-finding she has reviewed hundreds of peer-reviewed journal articles on the built environment's influence on patient care and analyzed dozens of new patient-centered projects. In the process she uncovered evidence to make healthcare facility design more effective. The result is a snapshot of how visionary planners and healthcare leaders are reinventing acute care in the 21st century. Read the introduction chapter.

CHD RECEIVES TWO NEW GRANTS FOR RESEARCH

The Center has received research grants from Philips Design and The California Health Care Foundation (CHCF).

This month our researchers, Anjali Joseph, Amy Keller, and Xiaobo Quan, traveled to Chicago for a workshop with the Philips team. They will be studying the impact of Philips' Ambient Experience MRI and CT Scan machines on patient, staff and financial outcomes. CHCF has engaged us to create a comprehensive resource that can guide designers, healthcare providers, and decision makers in making critical decisions during the design and renovation of ambulatory clinics.

NACHRI

The Center and NACHRI have completed their work on the upcoming publication, Evidence for Innovation: Transforming Children's Health through the Physical Environment. This unique resource, which includes a literature review, pediatric focused business case, recommendations, and conclusion, will be released in May 2008 at the NACHRI Facilities Design Conference in Denver, CO. The authors of the publication, Amy Keller and Blair Sadler, as well as NACHRI team members, Ellen Schwalenstocker, Ph.D. and Mitch Harris, Ph.D., will present results from the publication and a jointly created survey.
