Green Design: Six papers exploring the environmental impact hospitals have on their patients, staff, and communities.

Long-Term Care Design: 19-page paper that presents findings from more than 250 studies that assess the relationship between the physical environment and resident and staff outcomes in different types of long-term care settings.

Light: 12-page paper that examines how light impacts outcomes by reducing depression among patients, decreasing length of stay in hospitals, improving sleep and circadian rhythms, lessening agitation among dementia patients, easing pain, and improving adjustment to night-shift work among staff.

NEW CONFERENCE ON AGING RESCHEDULED

"Environments for Aging: Designs for a New Era" has been rescheduled for April 23-24 in Baltimore, MD. Sponsored by Vendome Group, publishers of Nursing Homes and Healthcare Design magazines, The Center for Health Design, and the City of Baltimore Commission on Aging and Retirement Education, this new conference focuses on enabling seniors to pursue active lifestyles and cultural opportunities in urban and suburban environments.

BOOK AUTHORS SEEKING CONTRIBUTIONS

Jan Carpman, Ph.D., and Myron Grant have been contracted by Jossey Bass publishers to write a third edition of DESIGN THAT CARES: Planning Health Facilities for Patients and Visitors. They are seeking contributions in the form of research reports, articles, design guidelines, papers, conference presentations, and books produced during the past 10 years and dealing with both inpatient and outpatient facilities.

Materials need to be received by November 1.
