Responsible use and conservation of the resources in healthcare facilities requires that we investigate systematically and in detail how such important factors as the physical environment affects patients' health outcomes. An update to an earlier monograph, this report was written to determine what is known about the effect of the healthcare environment on patient health outcomes. More than 77,000 references were reviewed, and the findings of 62 relevant studies are presented in an easy to comprehend summary. Suggested applications and recommendations for future studies are also included.
