Course Description
In today’s healthcare environment, furniture and surface product selection can be quite difficult, due to continuous challenges in upholstery failure and surface compatibility issues. These surfaces can be difficult to clean and can serve as reservoirs that promote the transmission of germs and potential healthcare-associated infections (HAI). This presentation will review the basics of infection prevention, while providing insight into how cleaning and disinfection is currently being conducted in the “real world” and the challenges this creates. The presentation will conclude with an exploration of new innovative technologies helping to reduce HAIs and the opportunities this creates when serving the healthcare market.
Learning objectives:
- Overview of healthcare acquired infections (HAIs) and their impact on healthcare systems.
- Increase knowledge of proper cleaning and disinfection procedures in healthcare settings.
- Understand relevant failures in furniture surfaces which can be the result of environmental contaminants and certain cleaning procedures.
- Introduce advanced tested methodologies required to identify durable materials for healthcare surfaces.
