Webinar: Practical Tips for Integrating EBD into the Traditional Design Process

D. Kirk Hamilton, PhD(c), FAIA, FACHA, EDAC

Hamilton is a Professor of Architecture and Fellow of the Center for Health Systems & Design at Texas A&M University where he teaches healthcare design in the graduate program. The focus of his research is the relationship of evidence-based health facility design to measurable organizational performance. Kirk is a board certified healthcare architect with 30 years of active practice before beginning his academic role, and is a founding principal emeritus of WHR Architects. His architecture degree is from the University of Texas, his master’s in organization development is from Pepperdine, and he is currently a doctoral candidate in nursing and healthcare innovation at Arizona State. He has been the president of both the AIA’s Academy of Architecture for Health and the American College of Healthcare Architects. Kirk speaks and writes frequently on healthcare design topics and is co-editor of the peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary Health Environments Research & Design journal (HERD). 

Jaynelle F. Stichler, DNS, RN, NEA-BC, EDAC, FACHE, FAAN

Dr. Stichler is Professor Emerita of Nursing at San Diego State University, founding Co-Editor of Health Environments Research & Design (HERD) Journal, and a founding member of Nursing Institute for Healthcare Design (NIHD). She is also an Academic Partner and Consultant for Research & Professional Development for Sharp Memorial Hospital and Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns in San Diego, CA. Dr. Stichler has experience as a healthcare executive and nurse consultant in nursing, healthcare and the design industry.  She has consulted with over 150 hospitals nationally and internationally.  She has authored over 200 articles in peer reviewed journals and books and is a frequent presenter at national and international nursing and healthcare design conferences. She is the co-editor for Nurses as Leaders in Healthcare Design: A Resource for Nurses and Interprofessional Partners published by HermanMiller, Inc.

Naomi Sachs, MLA, PhD(c), ASLA, EDAC

Naomi A. Sachs is Founding Director of the Therapeutic Landscapes Network (www.healinglandscapes.org) and the newly named Co-Editor of HERD Journal. She received a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley and is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in Architecture at Texas A&M University. Her most recent book, co-authored with Clare Cooper Marcus, is Therapeutic Landscapes: An Evidence-Based Approach to Designing Healing Gardens and Restorative Outdoor Spaces. Naomi serves on the Center for Health Design’s Environmental Standards Council; as faculty of the Chicago Botanic Garden Healthcare Garden Design Certificate Program; and as a reviewer for numerous peer-reviewed journals.
