"Happiness by Design: Multi-sensory Wellness Spaces"

This 60-minute session looks at ways to implement a curated collection of scientific data and research from a multitude of sources such as cognitive science, attention restoration theory, color therapy, and NASA nap research to design wellness rooms for interior environments. These spaces can be used to improve people’s overall happiness and well-being by appealing to all the senses. Ideas are presented in the form of three different conceptual room models – The Light & Sound Room, The Immersion, Distraction & Reflection (IDR) Room, and the Social & Creative Space – that provide facility managers and designers with a clear outline of items to consider when implementing each room type.

With the idea of wellness and well-being becoming increasingly more important, companies will find that providing employees and end-users with stress-reducing amenities will not only assist in the reduction of a myriad of health and performance issues but will also help to create an edge in competitive markets.

A virtual reality walk through of the rooms will be available for participants at the end of the session.
