RESOURCES | Pediatric Care Environments

June 2021

Pediatric patients, from newborn to young adult, are among our most vulnerable healthcare populations. Their needs are varied – from acute care, to complex critical care, to the growing demand for behavioral and mental health services – and often vastly different from adults.

To support improved care and medical outcomes, and enhance the experience for patients and their families, today’s design, facility and care professionals must advance their understanding of the environment’s role in pediatric health and wellness, and incorporate the best and latest research, tools and design solutions.

The Effectiveness of Environmental Strategies on Noise Reduction in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
Journal for Specialists in Pediatric Nursing

Event

Noise has been documented to be an adverse issue for patients and workers in a healthcare setting. Literature indicates that in intensive care units (ICUs), an increasing number of medical devices, equipment, and healthcare providers add to the crowding and ensuing noise levels.
