Researchers continue to find new and creative ways to better explore the link between design and health outcomes.

And the research continues to accumulate on the link between the built environment and COVID-19 (most of which are free/open-access). Integrating Lean Exploration Loops Into Healthcare Facility Design: Schematic Phase

There are so many different ways Lean can be used in the design field: to improve the design process itself, to improve the actual design, or to improve the operational side of things. Oftentimes these applications overlap. In a 2017 study by Johnson and colleagues, researchers explore the use of Lean Exploration Loops (LELs) to improve efficiency during the schematic design phase of a surgical tower, and in turn, find ways to address operational issues related to the new design.
