Over the next several decades, elderly and vulnerable populations will increasingly access acute and ambulatory settings. Older patients, especially those with dementia, are disproportionately negatively affected by traditional healthcare models. The design of care settings is a modifiable risk factor that can facilitate better outcomes.
Presenters will review insights gleaned from assessment tools for memory care, share insights, and offer cautionary advice for architectural planning, design, construction, post-occupancy evaluations, and quality improvement initiatives that are both anticipatory and responsive to the needs of older adults with cognitive and physical impairments, as well as their companions, and personnel.
