RESEARCH, DESIGN & OUTCOMES | 2025 PDC SUMMIT

Navigating the design of pediatric health facilities can be especially challenging when resources are limited and expectations are high.

Participants from a multi-disciplinary panel of leaders in the pediatric health environment will share some of their most innovative ideas, approaches, and unique case studies for pediatric healthcare design.

This panel discussion will include members from the top US children’s hospitals, a pediatric specialist from an architectural firm, and an industry leader in children’s product design.

Drawing on their experiences and their colleagues’ experiences, panel members will address several core topics during an interactive discussion, including:

  • Challenges faced in the pediatric environment and design approaches to address them;
  • Relevant case studies (e.g., innovative partnerships with industry; smarter project governance and structure; better future-proofing and flexible patient unit designs);
  • An update on a special project to reimagine future Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) room design; and
  • Other special considerations related to evidence-based pediatric design based on audience interest (e.g., operable windows and air quality measures debate; key data/benchmarks)

During this session, the audience will have the opportunity to join the candid conversations. The panel will include time for questions and comments. (This session is presented by the Center for Health Design’s Pediatric Environment Network.)
