Eileen Malone, Senior Partner for Mercury Healthcare Consulting, supports clients embracing evidence-based design in health facility projects as a means to improve healthcare outcomes. In 2004, Eileen retired from the U.S. Army, having held a variety of key leadership positions including hospital commander (CEO), Army Medical Department CIO, and Congressional Affairs Officer. She holds graduate degrees from Duke University and the National Defense University. Eileen received the Changemaker Award from The Center for Health Design in 2009 and served as co-chair of The Center’s Research Coalition. She was a member of the Facility Guideline Institute’s Board of Directors and 2014 Healthcare Guidelines Revision Committee. Eileen served on the Secretary of Defense’s Independent Review Panel on Military Medical Construction Standards from 2014-2015, which provided detailed recommendations for the Department and Congress in two reports.
Now semi-retired and a botanical artist, Eileen’s painting the Virginia Strawberry is being shown in the exhibition, Tradescant’s Orchard: A Celebration of Botanical Art at the Garden Museum in London, England. Her works have been shown at the United States Botanical Garden in Washington, D.C., Monticello’s Jefferson Library; The Delaware Museum; and other galleries. Eileen is the President of the Board of Botanical Artists for Education & the Environment and is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists.
