An expert in design of uplifting and supportive mental health environments, and a Director of Health for HDR, Barbara Miszkiel is internationally recognized in her thought-provoking design approach for enabling and responsive mental health environments within a recovery model of care, all while deftly balancing the need for safety and security. As a leader in HDR’s behavioral health practice, Barbara provides guidance and insight into the unique issues and concerns of this building type through her award-winning project work, including the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)* in Toronto, the Lutherwood Children’s Mental Health Centre*, and the new Hurvitz Brain Sciences Centre in Toronto. She shares her knowledge globally through presentations and seminars, research, articles, and academic mentorship. Her contributions have also been recognized in Verderber’s recently published (2018) book “Innovations in Behavioural Health Architecture”.
