    Penn Medicine Radnor, designed by Ballinger, transforms a derelict suburban office park into a community-focused, sustainable, mixed-use development rooted in nature. The 250,000 SF ambulatory care center is designed for regeneration of both the site and human health. The building and its attached garage form a U-shape around a courtyard, integrating it into the surrounding landscape and blurring the distinction between indoors and outdoors.

    Contemporary Women’s Care is an all-female OB/GYN practice dedicated to the total health care needs of women living in the greater Orlando, Florida, area. One of the few truly independent OB/GYN practices left in the greater Orlando area, the team at Contemporary Women’s Care is passionate about preserving the relationships between patients and their providers.  When the Director of Contemporary Women's Care, Dr. Pam Snook,  saw the Paladin rail products in action at the hospitals she decided to incorporate our philosophy of “…..if it’s on a wall it’s on a rail” throughout her new facility.

    A letter from a patient to the CEO of one of New England’s premier hospitals saying how great the care she received was, but the physical environment, especially the art, was a true disservice to the patients. The CEO made it his mission to implement a fully donor funded art program hospital wide to create a calming space.

    In Great American Art's initial walk-thru, we noted the walls were filled with things that didn't aid in the healing process. Using EBD for art to guide selections, we enhanced the physical environment providing points of connection with meaningful works of art that help all deal with the challenging circumstances they face.

    Jacobs Medical Center on University of California, San Diego’s (UCSD) east campus in La Jolla is located in the heart of the area’s nexus of biomedical research centers and hospitals. The 10-story, 509,500-square-foot facility is built next to UCSD’s existing Thornton Hospital and connects on multiple floors. It includes a bone marrow transplant unit, 14 operating rooms, labor and delivery unit, NICU and birthing center, and a medical education center with three theaters. Amenities include a chapel, courtyard, garden, and terraces. The building in LEED-registered.

    Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, the Bronson South Haven Hospital brings a unique delivery of care model and defines a new era healthcare to the local neighborhood and surrounding communities. The 52,000 SF Hospital and Medical Offices replaces an aging, full-service 49 bed community hospital serving both Allegan and Van Buren Counties in Western Michigan. The first floor consists of an inpatient unit, emergency department, imaging, support spaces, as well as the public lobby and dining space. The second floor includes a physician practice setting with multiple exam and treatment rooms to support primary and specialty care providers.

    E4H planned and designed the first inpatient bed expansion at Virginia Hospital Center since 2004. The multi-phased project will convert existing medical offices on floors 3 and 4 into state-of-the-art inpatient units, with private patient rooms that are 60% larger than other units and 30% larger than standard patient rooms.

    Hospital for Special Surgery and United Surgical Partners International formed a joint partnership to create an orthopedic center of excellence in West Palm Beach, Florida. Adjacent to the Good Samaritan Hospital, the new center offers outpatient orthopedic care including diagnostic services, ambulatory surgery, rehabilitation, and sports performance programs, bringing the top quality care of HSS to communities in South Florida. The 4-level building features floor-to-ceiling windows to encourage natural light and views of the ocean. A 5-level parking garage adjacent to the Hospital offers convenient, direct access to the building.

    The project's mission was to solve the extensive inpatient needs of the campus, with the goal of increasing the number of single-rooms from 30% to 90% and updating the oldest rooms on the campus. The planning & conceptual design process involved heavy user group input including collaboration with the Facility Master Planning Steering Committee, Sustainability Council, Internal Departments, Design User Groups for nursing, support, and ancillary services, and Patients and Families Design User Group.

    ESa provided master planning and design services to transform the Monument Health Rapid City Hospital campus into a campus equipped to accommodate more patients and to offer more advanced services in an updated environment with efficient patient through-put. Phased improvements include a 260,000 square feet of additions and renovations and a new integrated 80,000-square-foot, four-story hospital office building.

    Improvements include a newly relocated, expanded Emergency Department, new bed tower with the addition of 32 critical care beds and shell space, and a Central Utility Plant expansion. The additions have also been designed for future interior buildout, vertical and horizontal expansion.

    The 12,500 SF unit was designed and constructed in just 120 days and incorporates all of the planned care and documentation practices to support the Western Maryland community during the COVID-19 pandemic and future events as they may occur. The negative-pressure and ventilator-capable environment was designed adjacent to outpatient facilities and increases the overall capacity of available beds, while limiting the exposure of the infected patients. The unit features two operating modes: “normal,” where the rooms function as typical medical/surgical beds; and “infectious,” where all 20 rooms operate under negative pressure to care for infected patients and provide clinical safety.
