CHD 2014 Changemaker Award Winner Avein Saaty-Tafoya, CEO of Adelante Healthcare, outlines the vision, planning, construction, and implementation phases of the 43,000 sq. ft. comprehensive health center that is Adelante Healthcare Mesa. By engaging staff, patients, board members, the CHD Pebble design community and research partners at CHD and AZ State University, Adelante has demonstrated that EBD is not only possible but an asset when the not-for-profit and ambulatory sectors of the system are developing Capital projects. 

In 2014, Dodge Data and Analytics (DD&A) conducted a wide-reaching study of the perception of building impacts on health among design and construction industry professionals in the commercial, institutional and residential sectors, medical professionals, human resources executives and owners. This webinar presents the findings of this study. The presentation incorporates findings from other DD&A studies on the importance of collaboration, which can be a critical factor for preserving both green and healthy building priorities by addressing uncertainties that can have negative impacts on project cost, schedule and quality.

This webinar will guide you through incorporating ambulatory care design trends and evidenced-based design principles when designing for ambulatory facilities. Learn from success stories at the UW Health – Yahara Clinic, an outpatient facility in Monona, Wisconsin. The presentation highlights Yahara Clinic’s operational concept of self-rooming and design for Integrated Care Team space. Post occupancy outcomes will be shared, including an 83% reduction in staff footsteps and 25% improvement in patient satisfaction scores. 

This session reviews the research and design implemented by HDR at Central Washington and how it integrated lean strategies and all 8 steps of the evidence-based design process to deliver a new patient bed tower. Learn how these strategies have impacted both work processes and employee satisfaction. The presenters will discuss their methodology and results from the research conducted, and how that research impacted the design of the hospital, its occupants, and the efficiency of the building.

Three units were analyzed including Critical Care, Medical Oncology and Obstetrics in order to track clinical behaviors and to identify opportunities for improvement for the newly designed space. The travel study indicated for all units measured that the time spent on value added care, the time spent on direct care, and the aisle effectiveness all increased from current to future state workflow and generally outperformed the national benchmarks for their corresponding unit types. Additionally, review the process and results of the post-occupancy evaluation.

With an unprecedented growth in clinic construction, clinic leaders across the nation increasingly recognize the potential benefits of an evidence-based clinic design approach in improving patient, staff, and organizational outcomes. However, knowledge gaps widely exist and knowledge sharing is impeded by the lack of a central information repository. The webinar will focus on the development and testing of a post-occupancy evaluation (POE) tool as well as a database for community health centers to enable building evaluation and sharing of findings.
