2015 Accomplishments

Research

  • The Knowledge Repository grew to over 3,000 references and 325 key point summaries with support from AIA, AAHF, ASHE, FGI, NIHD and Research Design Connections.

  • Lorissa MacAllister was awarded the 2015 New Investigator Research Award, by the Research Coalition.

  • Launched Design Insights and Strategies Tool, a set of interactive room diagrams for medical-surgical, intensive care unit, and maternity care room designs that provide access to the healthcare design evidence base in an accessible and actionable format.

  • Created with the funding support of AHRQ and a multitude of volunteers, we launched the online Safety Risk Assessment to help healthcare design teams proactively identify and mitigate built environment conditions that impact patient and worker safety in healthcare environments.

Education

  • Launched new a new website with over 250 new design tools, interviews, case studies, blogs, executive summaries, design strategies, issue briefs, lessons learned, related resources and member projects. Funded in part by The Kresge Foundation.
  • ​Created and launched a new membership opportunity - Affiliate+, a new way to explore, learn and solve today's most pressing healthcare design challenges through access to in-depth, high-value, leading-edge facility design research, strategies and tools.

  • Produced 15 webinars providing 15 continuing education hours. A total of 51 webinars are now available on demand!

  • Produced 4 Pebble in Practice Workshops that focused on emergency department design, functional programming, safety risk assessment and anti-microbial surfaces.

  • Published the 3rd edition of EDAC Study Guide 1 - completing the 3rd edition of the entire Study Guide set.

  • 240 people took the EDAC exam.

  • EDAC celebrated it's 6th year increasing the global community to over 1900 certified individuals.

  • Provided 4 EBD Journal Clubs, providing 1 free continuing education unit each to deepen the community's knowledge of specific research studies.

  • Awarded Betsy Brawley with the Lifetime Achievement Award and Jane Rohde with the Changemaker Award at the Environments for Aging Conference and Rosalyn Cama with the Lifetime Achievement Award and Roger Ulrich with the Changemaker Award at Healthcare Design Expo & Conference.
  • ​Produced Environments for Aging Conference and Healthcare Design Expo & Conference with our new partner Emerald Expositions, offering 46 CEUs and networking opportunities with over 4,800 colleagues, peers and industry leaders.

  • ​Participated in the Arabian Gulf University Facility Visioning Workshop in Bahrain

Advocacy

  • Welcomed 2 new members to the board of directors;  Avein Saaty-Tafoya MD, MBA, HCM, EDAC, President and CEO of Adelante Healthcare and Tom Jung, RA, Thomas M. Jung Consulting, LLC.

  • The Built Environment Network (BEN) welcomed two new members, Ralph Turner, MHA, MPA, FACHE, Vice President, Facilities & Support Services, UW Hospital & Clinics and Walter Jones, AIA, EDAC, LEED, Senior Vice President, Campus Transformation, MetroHealth.

  • Held 5 regional Health Design Networking events in New York, San Francisco, Houston, Boston and Washington DC with 295 attendees, 20 presenters and 5 CEUs.

  • Welcomed 115 new Affiliate members and 18 new Affiliate+ members.

  • Highlighted the lessons learned by 13 EDAC Advocates in the 2016 EDAC Advocate Brochure.
