When the new Women’s Clinic at Grady Hospital opened its doors in late 2017, more than a renovation was unveiled. A complete transformation of operations and processes influenced planning of the 28-exam room clinic, designed to improve the patient experience and provider efficiency. A unique opportunity arose due to the integration of two separate academic teaching clinics. The clinics had been working in adjoined spaces for decades with their own distinct processes. Planning began with a unified vision from stakeholders who came to the table seeking an integrated teaching model. Hear their story and view measurable outcomes revealed in a post-occupancy evaluation.

Learning Objectives

  • Apply principles of Lean in current and future operations during the planning process.

  • Define successful elements of clinic flow and use of space.

  • Understand the operational influence on aspects of design.

  • Analyze results via a comprehensive post-occupancy evaluation.
