Behavioral health facility design is complex and highly technical. This is especially true regarding the conversion of an existing healthcare space into an operational and compliant behavioral health facility. It is critical to understand the terminology and methodology behind the design of a behavioral health facility to determine how it should function. Using the KVC Meadow Point Youth Behavioral Health facility as a case study, this webinar will focus on the adaptation of an existing space into a behavioral health-compliant facility and the unique approach utilized to ensure organizational success. Presenters will explore how the design process resulted in an environment that maintains the maximum safety and security that these spaces require.
Basil Sherman, AIA, Principal, Pulse Design Group
Mr. Sherman graduated with a Masters of Architecture from the University of Kansas and has 14 years of experience in healthcare facility design and project management. His expertise includes planning/programming/schematics to construction management/completion. Mr. Sherman is particularly skilled in master planning and conceptual design. He plays an integral role developing creative healthcare environments and assisting clients through the design development process. Mr. Sherman strives to push the design envelope while ensuring project and clinical functionality.
Ryan Speier, President, KVC Hospitals
Mr. Speier has 16 years of experience providing care and thought leadership through direct care positions, inpatient and outpatient services, business growth and development, healthcare integration, and alignment of strategic partnerships. He is the President of KVC Hospitals, a nonprofit psychiatric hospital system serving children, adolescents, and adults where he works to develop collaborative relationships with government agencies and community stakeholders. Mr. Speier is experienced in leading and directing large complex, multidisciplinary teams, has strong communication skills, and is driven by the mission and belief that all patients deserve the best care provided with respect and compassion.
Robert Eklofe, MHSA, Vice President, Behavioral Health Operations, KVC Hospitals
Robert Eklofe is the Vice President of Behavioral Health Operations for KVC Hospitals and has 27 years of experience working in the behavioral health field. He has worked in residential services, psychiatric hospitals, schools and community correctional settings, where he has held positions in patient care, human resources, training, hospital administration, and executive leadership. He has served on many local and state stakeholder committees to advocate for community behavioral health needs. Robert is recognized as a servant leader that operates with integrity and commitment for the lives of children, adults, families, and other stakeholders served by KVC Hospitals.
