As the chair of the IES Lighting for The Aged & Partially Sighted Committee and a member of the National Institute of Building Sciences' Low Vision Design Committee, Mr Guarnaccia will explore a multidisciplinary approach to empower those with low vision in their quest to lead independent and fulfilled lives. This webinar will share basic principles and some evidence-based guidance developed for IES/ANSI RP-28 and the NIBS Low Vision Design Guidelines that designers can employ as they integrate lighting systems into supportive environments for the 17 million Americans who live within the spectrum of low vision. 

 

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the relationship between low vision and lighting quality and quantity.
  • Discover the basic tools and design rules that can have the greatest effect in supportive visual environments.
  • Compare current recommended practices for designing for low vision populations with general design codes and standards.
  • Learn about lighting considerations to help design healthy visual environments for seniors and other low vision populations. 

 

Presenting Faculty

Greg Guarnaccia, LC, LEED AP, IES, Principal, DoublEdge Design LLC

Greg Guarnaccia, the founder and principal designer of DoublEdge Design, has been practicing lighting design for 25 years. With a broad base of experience, he has been involved with a variety of project types from mid-rise commercial and residential buildings to mixed-use projects, schools, museums and performing arts centers.  Mr. Guarnaccia is Lighting Certified by the National Council on Qualifications for the Lighting Professions and is a LEED Accredited Professional.  Mr. Guarnaccia holds a Masters of Science in Architectural Lighting Design and Management and chairs the IES Low Vision Design Committee, sits on the National Institute of Building Sciences Low Vision Committee and represents the IES on the ICC-ANSI 117.1 Committee.

Specialties: Designing for aging and people with vision disabilities. Public and private sector office projects as well as health care, assisted living facilities and regional clinics. Understand the roles of technology and cross-disciplinary experience in design education.

 

 

Many attendees of The Center for Health Design’s webinars have inquired about IDCEC approval so they can earn ASID, IIDA, and IDS CEU’s. We have looked into this and unfortunately, the cost to upload courses to IDCEC is simply too high at this time. You can still earn credit for attending our webinars by requesting a verification certificate, starting July 9, 2020, The Center for Health Design will start charging a CEU management fee for verification certificates for all webinars and EBD Journal Clubs..
