2022 Changemaker and Lifetime Achievement Recipients to Be Honored at Environments for Aging Conference & Expo

Concord, CA – For their work and contributions to the advancement of living and care environments for aging adults, The Center for Health Design will award special recognitions at the upcoming Environments for Aging Conference & Expo taking place April 2-5 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.


Changemaker Award

Margaret Calkins, M.Arch, PhD, EDAC, FGSA

Margaret Calkins, M.Arch, PhD, EDAC, FGSA and current Board Chair of the IDEAS institute, will be honored with the 2022 Changemaker Award for her pioneering, influential and internationally-recognized work and body of research that has transformed environmental design and standards of care for older adults, especially those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. As a visionary, advocate, and commanding voice in advancing Person-Centered Care, Dr. Calkins helped initiate a new paradigm for designing, building and providing memory care.

The Changemaker Award honors individuals or organizations that have demonstrated exceptional ability to change the way healthcare facilities are designed and built, and whose work has broad impact on the advancement of healthcare design.

 

Lifetime Achievement Award

Uriel Cohen, PhD and Gerald Weisman, PhD

As Founders and Co-Directors of the Institute on Aging & Environment at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Uriel Cohen, PhD and Gerald Weisman, PhD have had a dramatic impact on the fields of design and design research of health-supportive environments for older adults, particularly those suffering from cognitive impairments. Under their direction, the Institute fostered generations of designers and researchers who have made major advances in this work.

For their passion, dedication and impact, past and future, The Center will honor Drs. Cohen and Weisman with its Lifetime Achievement Award. The Russ Coile Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have dedicated their careers to the advancement of the healthcare design field and celebrates their significant contributions.
