The OHSU Rood Family Pavilion: Serving Patients and Families in Difficult Times

Every year thousands of patients arrive at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital to receive long-term, specialty care unavailable in their home communities. These patients and families not only face a medical crisis, but also the logistical and financial demands of finding a place to stay. OHSU partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities to provide the first of its kind five-story guest house designed for pediatric and adult patients and their families to rest, work, prepare meals and gather.

The 300,000 square feet complex also includes a five-story parking garage, loading dock and conference center, accomplishing many strategic priorities in one square block. Special design considerations were made to meet both the neighborhood and city expectations. This webinar will share how this innovative housing facility, addressing both pediatric and adult families, became a reality through a unique partnership and financial model.
