Circadian Lighting: Science and Application in Elder Care

Evidence demonstrating the impact of light on human biological and behavioral health is well documented. Research also shows that the aging eye allows less light to enter, and a yellowing lens reduces blue light, which may negatively affect the circadian system. However, the aging eye is also very susceptible to glare, particularly from cooler white light sources. This paradox may explain why the elderly are most likely to have circadian dysfunction, which can lead to acceleration of cognitive decline. This webinar will address the science behind circadian lighting; explore strategies to evaluate, design, and implement an effective circadian lighting system for the aging; and present potential benefits.
