In September 2005, SMMC broke ground on a $102 million, 265,000 sq. ft. Critical Care Services Expansion. This seven-story tower will increase the overall hospital square footage by 40 percent and house the following departments:
- 40-bay Emergency Department
- 28-bed Intensive Care Unit
- 32-bed Cardiac Care Unit
- 4 additional Surgery Suites
- New Endoscopy Lab
New Perianesthesia Recovery Unit and Ambulatory Care Center
With a modern look featuring walls of glass, the Critical Care Services Expansion will also serve as the new main entrance to the hospital and include a new Pre-admission Center.
Designed to meet patients’ medical, emotional and spiritual needs, this new addition will feature private patient rooms and a larger family support areas with home-like amenities. Gardens and green spaces along with a new chapel and gift shop will help create a healing environment for patients and their families.
Construction is scheduled to conclude in late 2008 and HMN Architects and NBBJ are the design firms for the project.
