Robin Orr is President of The Robin Orr Group, a Santa Barbara, California based consulting firm providing services to healthcare systems, providers, architects, interior designers and manufacturers. She was one of the pioneers of The Planetree Organization, an internationally acclaimed consumer healthcare organization known for its humanistic, patient-oriented approach to healthcare delivery and consumer access to health information. For 12 years Robin was the Executive Director and National Director of Hospital Projects responsible for developing the Planetree Model of Patient-Family Centered Care. Ms Orr has been a hospital administrator and continuing champion of consumer and patient rights.
Robin was profiled in Hospitals and Health Networks magazine as one of the “top innovators and entrepreneurs” in the healthcare industry and by the Healthcare Forum Journal as “a maverick and revolutionary”. She was featured on the cover of Working Woman magazine as "The Manager of the 90's" and in 1999 was the first recipient of The Center for Health Design's Changemaker Award given "for her leadership and dedication to creating life-enhancing environments in healthcare facilities across the United States”.
Robin has been a member of the Revision’s Committee of the “Guidelines for Design and Construction of Hospital and Health Care Facilities" sponsored by the American Institute of Architects Academy of Architecture for Health with support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She sits on the faculty of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement working on the national initiative “Transforming Care at the Bedside”. She is a Senior Advisor to Hearthstone Alzheimer Care, a privately held corporation dedicated to “the finest residential care creating specialized environments and research based programs where people with Alzheimer’s can flourish”. Ms Orr is facilitating a world-wide expansion of the Hearthstone philosophy and Hearthstone Foundation, a research and educational foundation, based in the United States with programs in Great Britain, France and Australia.
