Devoted to how the design of responsibly built environments directly impacts the safety, operation, clinical outcomes, and financial success of healthcare facilities, both now and into the future, this healthcare design conference highlights best practices and top healthcare design products. Attendees have the opportunity to earn continuing education credits, network with peers, discuss best practices, view innovative design products, and influence the direction of the industry as it advances into the future.
W01: Coaching Workshop: Practical Application of Evidence-Based Design
8:00 am - 3:00 pm
W07: EDAC Exam Prep Session
3:30 - 5:30 pm
D01: Safety Risk Assessment (SRA) Toolkit User Experiences:
What Can We Learn from Version 2.0?
9:30 - 11:45 am
The development and dissemination of the SRA toolkit by The Center for Health Design, in partnership with a diverse pool of healthcare design and clinical care experts, provides a comprehensive tool to support and focus the efforts of the valuable human resources informing these risk analyses. While still in the early stages of adoption, the SRA has been field tested by a number of design and healthcare entities. Others have considered or attempted to utilize the tool, and others are waiting for feedback from the early adopters. Using a case-study format, this deep-dive interactive session will describe the experiences of several organizations that are using the SRA in a variety of project types.
D02: Recognizing Exemplary Achievements in Evidence-Based Design
1:45 - 4:00 pm
Since the launch of the EDAC (Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification) program, more than 2,400 individuals have obtained this certification. Many of these individuals and their organizations have applied an evidence-based design (EBD) process in projects throughout the world. These projects aimed to increase value and measurably improve safety; quality; organizational performance; and the experiences of patients, families and staff. The Center for Health Design Touchstone Award, premiered in 2017, acknowledges and recognizes projects that have demonstrated exemplary use of an EBD process with achievement in three areas: Collaborate, Evaluate, and Share. Join this deep-dive workshop and hear the specific details about the winning projects and how they applied the EBD process in a variety of healthcare environments.
K03: The Center for Health Design Awards and Changemaker Keynote Presentation
8:00 -9:30 am
E42: Research Matters: 10 Picks for the Year
9:45 -10:45 am
To apply evidence-based design, you have to know what the best available evidence is. But research is published faster than anyone can read it. How can researchers and practitioners keep up with the most important work? In this rapid-fire session, experts from The Center for Health Design will present their version of visual abstracts for 10 articles of the past year, discussing what we’ve learned and what we still need to know. This session will help participants ride the waves in an ocean of evidence, without drowning in it. But more: It will provide a shared body of knowledge for the health design community.

A20: Built Environment Network Educational Session - The Owners Perspective: Key Insights Impacting Design
2:00 - 4:00 pm
Every year, members of the Built Environment Network (BEN) travel throughout the country to learn about innovative solutions and best practices in the industry. Attend this session to gain their perspective about what they saw and heard on their travels and what they plan to implement within their own organizations. Topics this year focused on solutions for getting to "Net Zero” and “Carbon Neutrality", e.g. micro grids, power purchase agreements, infrastructure and lighting solutions; prefab construction solutions to gain more flexibility and speed, and integration of telemedicine and virtual care. Come with your questions and engage in a dialogue during this interactive session.
E52: The Science of Healthcare Design: A Review of Studies Published in HERD Journal
3:30 - 4:30 pm
This session provides an information-rich retrospective review of studies published in HERD Journal for the past 10 years. Participants will expand their knowledge about the state of the science of healthcare design. The science has been emerging over the past decade, and currently there are enough studies published to develop a systematic literature review to guide healthcare design decision-making and the development of design guidelines.
