Martha Jefferson Hospital’s vision is to “set the standard for clinical quality and personal health care.” Martha Jefferson’s goal is to re-define community health care and become a national benchmark through a complete replacement hospital strategy. Kahler Slater’s design team’s goal is to ensure that their new vision is met through every experience at their new campus in Charlottesville, VA.

The new $92 million, 284,000 square foot Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion is designed to serve as the hub for cancer care in the 13-county area served by Spectrum Health.  It is designed to provide a seamless continuum of care and features state-of-the-art clinical technology.

The goal for this project was, "to provide world-class cancer care locally, in a center that is a  model community and university partnership, providing patients and families access to cutting-edge research and treatment protocols in a nurturing, compassionate, and hope-filled environment."

The goal for this project is to include direct access from the neighboring parking deck, addressing staff needs and operational efficiencies by clustering services, including the flexibility to accommodate future needs, and creating a patient-friendly environment.

Kaiser Permanente's new templates introduce lots of color in the new construction and remodel of hospitals and medical office buildings - the result is a medical center featuring a green, sustainable design that incorporates more than 35 colors in floor coverings, paint colors and furnishings.

The facility was built with the unique needs of children in mind.  Their covenant - Through the Eyes of a Child - guided every decision and helped create a child-friendly atmosphere inside and out.

The West 5th Street Campus will be a new facility built on the existing hospital site in Hamilton. It will consist of 301 inpatient beds, outpatient space, and all clinical and administrative support space necessary in the provision of specialized mental health and addiction services. 

This project began with the participation of more than 100 staff members of the Massachusetts Department Mental Health (DMH) in the programming process. Program approval required the consensus of over 300 stakeholders, psychiatric treatment professionals, and specialized planners and designers.
