This webinar will explain how various environment-behavior studies can contribute to healthcare design through EB theories, models, frameworks, and research methods. In addition, this webinar elaborates on the linkages between EB studies and evidence-based design theory development and research. The presenter will also explain research-practice integration through healthcare case studies demonstrating how projects have explicitly or implicitly utilized these theories.  

Food and dining are core components in the quality in health- and long-term care settings. But beyond aesthetics and layout, little is known about how the performance characteristics of materials and finishes contribute to the experiential quality of dining spaces. A pre-/post- “refresh” study was conducted to assess the impact indoor environmental quality (acoustic, thermal, visual, and indoor air comfort) sensors and surveys in two adjacent dining spaces. This study benefitted from a novel approach to collaborative partnerships AND evaluation techniques to study workforce and building performance. The results of this research carry regulatory, design, service, and workforce implications.

Presenters will share how they used proof-of-concepts to evaluate sensor technology and determine the best solutions, as well as best practices. They’ll share valuable lessons learned in developing a business case for sensor implementation, overcoming internal political challenges, and space sharing, closures and consolidations. Attendees will see how sensors were integrated with a room reservation system for shared resources (i.e. consult rooms, sleep rooms, lactations spaces) and will obtain examples, dashboards, and reports for how space utilization data is being used to resolve space requests and determine how future spaces should be designed.
