    We have seen first hand the remarkable development of the Agnesian HealthCare system since 2001 as we provide on going master planning services, new inpatient and outpatient building designs, remodeling of existing departments and most currently the planning and design of a critical access hospital in Ripon.

    Natural light permeates the interiors of the acute care hospital in the public areas, patient rooms, operating rooms, PACU and at the ends of the patient corridors. A Gold-Level LEED Certified Healthcare Facility, the hospital is the centerpiece of the 28-acre campus that also includes a medical office building.

    The 227,128-square-foot hospital is noteworthy because of the considerable number of evidence-based design principles incorporated within one hospital to create a healing, yet efficient environment. The facility is designed to enhance patient care as well as staff/patient efficiencies.

    Evidence-based design and safety priorities in the patient rooms were a key focus. With the hospital's focus on safety, the primary outcome desired by the client was the reduction of preventable episodes, such as patient falls, post-procedural infections, staff lifting and other occupational injuries, and reduced length of stay for patients.

    The Children’s Hospital Art Committee knew from the start they wanted the art program created for their Paramount Farms Plaza expansion to illustrate the importance of the San Joaquin Valley, and the produce grown there, to the rest of the world in a manner that would excite and involve children and local artists in the creation of a highly polished art program.

    Presbyterian Healthcare Services wanted to involve the community of Rio Rancho in the creation of an art program that not only visually established a connection to Sandoval County, but also reflected New Mexico’s rich culture. The art program was to reflect the new face of Presbyterian, elements of which would be implemented at their existing flagship downtown location to visually create “One Presbyterian”. Authenticity was paramount.

    Art by Design — Distinctive Art Sourced collaborated with HDR to visually bring each intentionally designed building theme to life through art selection featuring original photography by selected artist, Henry Domke. HDR developed unique identifying design themes for the clinic and hospital buildings.

    Believing that the healing professional’s vitality is paramount to creating the best patient experiences and outcomes, Kahler Slater successfully worked with San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, New Mexico to leverage their major capital project into an opportunity to shift their culture and workplace. Kahler Slater assisted every step along the way, even their highly successful capital fundraising campaign which included countywide increase to the gross receipts tax.

    The recommitment of St. Mary’s Hospital, a member of SSM Health Care, the first health care organization to win the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, to its downtown location came with ambitious aspirations. Expanding their campus to visually fit into their community, creating a welcoming experience, and providing the latest technology in an efficient chassis were all welcomed challenges to the design team.

    Martha Jefferson Hospital’s vision is to “set the standard for clinical quality and personal health care.” Martha Jefferson’s goal is to re-define community health care and become a national benchmark through a complete replacement hospital strategy. Kahler Slater’s design team’s goal is to ensure that their new vision is met through every experience at their new campus in Charlottesville, VA.
