This webinar will address how we as programmers, designers, and planners can influence inclusive healthcare environment that serves everyone. If health disparities are to be addressed holistically and universally, then healthcare design will be an important component of that shift. For clients that are serving underserved regions, whether with the construction of new facilities or the renovation of existing buildings on campus, we owe it to all shareholders to understand the issues of inclusive architecture, and to help them set, reach and exceed goals for meeting the needs of patients and families that traditionally do not have their healthcare needs met.

This webinar highlights guidance on community crisis center planning, design, and construction to ensure maximum dignity and accurate diagnosis for individuals served within a safe and restorative environment of care. Presenters will share a care model that fills a gap in design recommendations for a standalone community crisis response that lies somewhere between intensive outpatient and acute hospital settings.

This webinar will highlight research and design strategies to mitigate challenges to the aging eye and cognition. Presenters will explore how daylight and bright electric lighting is even more important, balanced with very low level, warm lighting at night. Think it’s a good idea to mimic trendy hospitality lighting in senior spaces? Think again. For health and safety, we need to dramatically change our design approach!  

The program will then focus on addressing the apparent conflicts by identifying some of the alleged conflicts.  Each conflict will then be discussed in detail looking at current code requirements, changes in more recent editions of the applicable codes, and looking at equivalencies or alternative methods that could be considered.  As with other design considerations, involvement of all the stakeholders will be illustrated as a key factor in achieving an acceptable level of life safety while meeting the needs of the patients and clinical staff in a behavioral health environment.  

Children’s Health Dallas teamed up with Philips and Recornect to create and pilot new ED exam rooms to improve the experience of receiving mental health care in the Emergency Department. By integrating a specialized interactive touchscreen with ambient room technology and therapeutic content, ED exam rooms are transformed into ultra-tunable environments that can help improve care delivery. Patients can rapidly de-escalate, begin therapy faster, and connect with staff in new ways. This webinar will tell the story of their design process, patient outcomes and valuable lessons learned.
