    April 2024 Webinar

For years, the Stantec team has made hands-on, life-sized collaboration a key phase in developing designs, inviting professionals and end users to explore and give feedback to design ideas in real time. Recently, their design experts explored an experimental design process that combines typical analog mockup with the power of generative AI. This webinar will share their process and explore application of this design concept for two care spaces focused on behavioral health. See how this approach improves the quality and accuracy of the design, is fast and realistic, builds consensus, deepens stakeholder engagement, and democratizes the design process!

This webinar will describe the design process of this unique project, merging the behavioral health expertise of BWBR with the local leadership of BCRA, working together with the Washington Department of Social and Health Services. See how they defined and developed a new model of care for community-based treatment for individuals involuntarily committed by a civil court order for inpatient mental health treatment. Explore the benefits of community-based treatment, lessons learned (and applied) after 12 months of occupancy at the first facility completed, and gain insights gathered from surveying facility staff on successes and opportunities that can be applied in the three buildings still under construction.

This webinar will highlight the interior design considerations and subsequent design decisions for Children’s Minnesota to meet the surging demand for pediatric mental health services. To ensure the new space met the specific needs of patients and their families, the design team consulted with the Children’s Youth Advisory Committee, a group comprised of patients aged 10 to 18. Come hear their story.

This webinar highlights guidance on community crisis center planning, design, and construction to ensure maximum dignity and accurate diagnosis for individuals served within a safe and restorative environment of care. Presenters will share a care model that fills a gap in design recommendations for a standalone community crisis response that lies somewhere between intensive outpatient and acute hospital settings.

The program will then focus on addressing the apparent conflicts by identifying some of the alleged conflicts.  Each conflict will then be discussed in detail looking at current code requirements, changes in more recent editions of the applicable codes, and looking at equivalencies or alternative methods that could be considered.  As with other design considerations, involvement of all the stakeholders will be illustrated as a key factor in achieving an acceptable level of life safety while meeting the needs of the patients and clinical staff in a behavioral health environment.

Children’s Health Dallas teamed up with Philips and Recornect to create and pilot new ED exam rooms to improve the experience of receiving mental health care in the Emergency Department. By integrating a specialized interactive touchscreen with ambient room technology and therapeutic content, ED exam rooms are transformed into ultra-tunable environments that can help improve care delivery. Patients can rapidly de-escalate, begin therapy faster, and connect with staff in new ways. This webinar will tell the story of their design process, patient outcomes and valuable lessons learned.

This webinar offers a case study of IU Health Bloomington Hospital. One of the main challenges of this project was creating a flexible space that was safe and secure, but highly focused on hospitality and positive patient environments. This team discussed the ideal vision for the unit with the client and through intentional communication and focused listening, a plan was developed by the staff which Guidon implemented into a program space and floor plan. Using 3D modeling and mock-up, the team developed a thorough understanding of the integrated case work.
