The Workshop

The challenges created by today’s growing mental health and substance abuse crises, especially in light of the recent pandemic, reach far beyond the behavioral health unit into emergency departments, outpatient clinics and throughout acute and ambulatory care settings.

To support improved care and enhance staff safety, today’s design, facility and care professionals have to advance their understanding of the environment’s impact on behavioral health care and learn how to incorporate the best and latest design solutions throughout all healthcare setting.

Webinar
July 2020 Webinar

This webinar will offer new lessons learned and insights arising out of 20 mental health projects currently in design, under construction, or recently occupied encompassing over 5,000 beds in 14 States in every part of the United States.

Webinar
July 2020 Webinar

This webinar will explore the impact the pandemic has had on outpatient behavioral health care. Presenters will share insights and lessons learned from care providers, discuss systemic changes to reimbursement and operations, evaluate what changes will remain in the future, and explore essential design considerations for behavioral health outpatient care that we need to embrace as we transition into the “new normal” of the post-pandemic world.

Understanding the personal abilities and unique challenges faced by aging individuals, especially those living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, better equips design teams to create supportive care and living spaces. Changes that can be credited to dementia are noticeably different from the changes typical of normal aging, but both can occur at the same time.

Design Strategies
March 2020 Design Strategies

Understanding the personal abilities and unique challenges faced by aging individuals, especially those living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, better equips design teams to create supportive living spaces. Devising goals that target single symptoms and objectives is not always practical, however, because changes associated with aging, Alzheimer’s disease, and other dementias tend to appear in “clusters” rather than in isolation. The design-based evidence associated with designing supportive memory care settings results in 12 programmatic design strategies.

Webinar
February 2020 Webinar

This webinar highlights a case study of the ErinoakKids Centre for Treatment and Development and explores how the design caused the building itself to become a tool for therapy, learning, and teaching.

Webinar
February 2020 Webinar

This webinar will focus on the adaptation of an existing space into a behavioral health-compliant facility and the unique approach utilized to ensure organizational success. Presenters will explore how the design process resulted in an environment that maintains the maximum safety and security that these spaces require.
